California artist Ann White grew up in the country. Much of her life was spent in direct contact with nature. Her love of art has been a life-long passion. Along with this passion was her love of horses. She is an accomplished horsewoman and has competed in barrel racing, a rodeo event. Although the artist presently resides in San Francisco, her plans are to eventually return to country life.

White's love of farm animals and life on a ranch has produced an intimacy with her subjects. Many of the animals look at the viewer straight on, unafraid or intimidated by their presence. The view is welcomed into the magic land of the familiar and the make believe. Living with an abundance of unobstructed space, one's perception is more linear in orientation. This particular way of looking at the landscape has been one of the three influences in White's work. The second influence has been the patterning that occurs in farming and nature. This patterning has become a recurrent theme in White's paintings and original prints. Indeed the patterning itself contributes to this whimsy. Lastly, the artist surrounds herself with American Folk art. It's simple depiction of people and animals is a constant inspiration for form and subject matter.

Along with painting White enjoys the challenges of printmaking. Her etchings, which she executes at Fort Mason, are often conceived in series. The quality of these prints demonstrates White's successful mastery of die medium.

White is represented in collections throughout the United States, and is the recipient of numerous awards.
