Michael Cohn and Molly Stone are internationally acknowledged by museums, corporate and private collections for their unique sculptural works of art. Since 1972, the works of Cohn Stone have been exhibited in the USA, Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, the Soviet Union, and Japan. Michael and Molly met through their common interest and involvement in the glass arts and have maintained a commitment to the design as well as the hands-on production of each individual piece of glass. A luminescent iridized interior sets off the warmth of the classic tortoise shell motif. Several distinct layers of colored glass are encased in crystal creating depth and richness. SHELL PAPERWEIGHTS The turbinate form, a reflection of actual shells designed by nature, is produced in solid crystal as well as iridized crystal. The colored shells begin with a solid crystal core over which colored glass frits and powders are applied prior to the final shaping. Cutting and polishing reveals the surprising illusion of an open shell form. The three dimensional quality of the interior reflects the magic of the sea. An object of universal appeal for any naturalist, shells or glass collector. REFLECTING BOWLS The reflecting bowls glow as if creating their own light source. The thick walled spherical forms are cut and polished on the top surface creating the illusion of a floating inner color shell. The interior of the piece is gilded with metallic leaf and lacquered in the age-old leafing process. A warm radiant incandescence creates a meditative work of art. |
