Michael Bégué is an artist comfortable working in a variety of mediums: wood, metal, acrylic, and found objects. Additionally, Michael is a trained welder and woodworker. Michael started his art career by collecting discarded items and creating collages in his bedroom; his first works of art were recklessly discarded by his father during cleaning sprees. With more artistic freedom in Park City, Michael began creating sculptures and mixed media paintings. Alongside his friends, Michael helped to create a quarterly social gathering of artists and their art work called “Who’s Art” in Park City. Spurred on by growing success and a need to try new mediums, Michael took an avid interest in wood working and furniture making, which have remained a passion and a livelihood since 1994. Michael Bégué was born in Paris, France in 1966. After a stay in North Carolina and eight years in Chicago, his family moved to Salt Lake City in 1980. After graduating from Westminster College with a BA in History, Michael moved to Park City where he worked as a brewer at Wasatch Brew Pub (1989-1993) and the head baker at Grappa Restaurant (1993-1995) before opening his own company, Crooked Ladder in 1995. Michael has since supported himself as a working artist/woodworker full time. Michael currently lives in Salt Lake City with his wife Denise, Director of Development for Ballet West and their son Alexander, a three year-old train expert and pirate in training. Michael Bégué creates custom designed and built fine wood art furniture. These include: dining tables, coffee tables, side tables, desks, bookshelves, armoires and cabinets. In addition to custom designed pieces Michael has also helped many customers replicate table designs thereby, working within the customers desired outcomes and financial capabilities. The ultimate goal of Michael Bégué is to create a treasured fine wood furniture art piece that will satisfy the customer’s needs and exceed their expectation. Michael Bégué has been donating to numerous non-profits for years, including: Red Butte Garden, Rowland-Hall/St. Marks, Junior League, Ballet West, Utah Heritage Foundation, Planned Parenthood of Utah, Utah Society of Environmental Education, Camp Kostapolous, and the Utah Museum of Fine Art. |
