Inspired by the Renaissance and Modernism, he creates works of stunning beauty and perplexity. His eclectic nature, sense of humor, flare for the macabre, and anachronistic audacity collide with the soul.
Trained as a painter in the old master/modern master traditions, he uses ancient and modern esoteric writings and images as a matrix for self-expression. His aesthetics were formed while living in Tokyo for a few years, later solidified while studying art in Florence and Paris.
Todd graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from Brigham Young University in the mid 1980's. He has exhibited in galleries for the last twenty years located in Houston, Palm Desert, Scottsdale, Salt Lake City and Atlanta. His works are in major corporate and private collections.
Art, a universal way of communication, is my means of communication with the world. This communication is done with an exaggerated photorealistic style which focuses on the intensity of color. As an artist, I take pleasure in capturing everyday objects from our world and enlarging them using vast proportional sizes. It is in this magnification that their genuine characteristics are accentuated. Some of my preferred subjects to portray using my distinctive style are: kitchen items, shoes, toiletries, and food. I am inclined to work with these objects because all people can make meaningful connections with these simple, yet complex images.
